a little about me
Gabby Huffstutler is a student at Appalachian State University in the studio art BFA program. She grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina and spent much of her time exploring the outdoors. Gabby began creating artwork in highschool and developed skills in photography and drawing. After beginning studies of art at a higher education level, her work expanded. She began experimenting with many other mediums including metals, fibers, and printmaking. After researching a variety of mediums she decided to specialize in clay through slip casting and other techniques. Gabby enjoys considering ideas of place, childhood, and nature throughout her work. In her time outside of the studio Gabby enjoys the good company of friends and family.

Artist Statement
In my work, I explore the intersection of memory and nature, examining how these two elements overlap. I believe that reflecting on the past is essential for understanding how it shapes our future. This can happen on both small and large scales, but every personal memory matters. Whether it’s catching fireflies on a summer night barefoot in the grass, cuddling a childhood rabbit stuffed animal, or recalling the place where you were born—each of these memories holds significance. What books did you read as a child, and what did they teach you? Do we keep our imagination with us as we grow, or does it fade with time? These reflections are crucial because, as we get older, we often lose our connection to nature. There’s less time to play outside, more tasks to complete, and we become increasingly busy. I want to encourage us all to reflect on ourselves, our world, and our future in it.
